I'm very happy and excited to announce that my fourth comic short story, "Sonnet 130, With Love" will be part of the SHAKESPEARE SHAKEN collection by Red Stylo Media who did POE TWISTED last year. Rather than simply retell and "twist" a piece, my partner Kristen McHugh and I took a rather short sonnet and built an entire world around it.
I've asked the artist Jhazmine Ruiz if she could send me the 3-side look at our main female character/villain Herja. I really hope she gets it to me. I would go out of my way to see that Herja could be cosplayed. She's the main focus of this page, shown with incredible pink hair (which I have always loved & didn't even tell Jhazmine that!). Also shown on this page is the character Delling one of Herja's minions and foot soldiers, and Violet her handmaiden who is important to the romantic drama of the plot.
Here's what we told Jhazmine about the character:
HERJA - She’s tall, gorgeous and seemingly perfect. She stands up straight and her smiles usually mean she’s up to something. She’s a vixen, utilizing sexuality for gain. Since this world is war torn, her outfit should draw upon strong military influence like Joe Benitez’s character Commander Winter from Lady Mechanika; steampunk outfits should combine everything from military to marching band to Jules Verne to burlesque influences using straps, buttons, gears, goggles, whatever you want to include to make her be fierce as well as beautiful.
I hope you are able to celebrate in August with me when SHAKESPEARE SHAKEN comes out. I'm planning on doing some local book signings in the NJ/PA area in late fall after our annual fundraiser at Comic Fusion.
