I've always wanted to have a superhero (villain) costume, but other projects have kept it in the planning stages. Some of you may remember this thread: http://thesuperherocostumingforum.yuku.com/topic/4369/Which-costumes-get-mobbed-for-photos?page=1 where I narrowed it down to what I wanted to build. Ultron!
Specifically my version of Great Ultron, from the Annihilation: Conquest story.
Now, over a year later, I am finally making progress! It started with the sculpt. I used Chavant Medium.
Laying up the clay wall to separate the silicone into halves. Then a "print coat" of silicone was poured.
Second half of mold.
Final mold with jacket (aka mother mold)
First aluminum cold cast pull
Bits were cut out in preparation for the acrylic window and electronics. My son has Autism and is one of my biggest fans. Even though he is 8, I still run ideas by him because he's brilliant and always gives on honest opinion. He liked the helmet, but he really lit up when I put on the antennae.
Fake red eyes as a placeholder. I am debating on what color to make the acrylic and the LEDs: yellow (w/orange LED), orange (w/red LED), or red (w/yellow LED). Any thoughts?
I hope to continue this project without any more delays. :) Unfortunately I have no money for DragonCon, and this won't be finished for at least another 2 months, but I hope to debut it at a large con within driving distance of NC.
