This year, after approaching several people to commission a custom Crimson Guard Baroness, I spoke with Brad from Outrageous Outfits. He was very eager to do the project and after getting on the same page with what I wanted he sent me a quote. The understanding was that this project would be done in time for Dragon*Con 2012.
Payment was sent, 400 of the ~750 the commission was to cost. I was told he would send a list of measurements needed to get started on it. He also asked if I cared if progress pics were shown on the SCF. I told him I didn't care if he shared progress pics but I did want the final reveal to be D*C 2012. I was told he was already working on the hybrid pattern since the armor was to be incorporated into a corset. I was also told he was waiting on 2 more deposits and would be making an order for materials that same week.
I contacted Brad asking if he needed measurements yet at this point. I hadn't heard anything from him in over a month. I was told they had just finished up Free Comic Book day stuff and were currently working on Comi-Con things. At this time I was told completion would be by the end of July. I was still not asked for my measurements.
July 14th: I was told that they had planned on getting to this sooner but were a little behind schedule. That they had had all the materials for some time but wanted to clear out all other D*C projects to focus on this one. I was told all others would be finished by July 16, that he would take a day for rest, then start on mine. He said by mid week he would sent me the measurements needed and was once again assured this would ship by the end of the month. He also stated he would be working on Monster Con stuff after this which was set for Oct.
August 2nd: I finally received a request for measurements with a chart by Simplicity. I was told I would have progress pictures by the next week and it would be completed by Friday to ship Monday. I submitted my measurements within 2 days and asked questions about a few of them but never got a response.
August 23rd: After emailing to ask where this project was, I was told pics were guaranteed by Sunday and it would ship Monday to be here by Wed in time for D*C.
August 27th: I received an email telling me there had been an issue with the prototype and this would NOT be done in time for D*C. I was told this project WAS going to be completed and that he was happy to either refund my money, or finish the project for me with what I had already paid. I responded by saying I would let him know what I decided once I had calmed down.
On the 4th after D*C I emailed him to ask what kind of time frame was the project expected to be completed on. I have a photo shoot scheduled for the 22nd and was hoping to take this. I have yet to get any response or a refund.
I have no contact info for him except an email address that he is obviously not answering. I really didn't want to have to air this here, but I've been given no other course of action with this. Needless to say I am extremely unhappy with this and had hoped with the glowing recommendations from this board I would avoid exactly this kind of thing happening. I can only hope that by being forced to respond in a public place that I can get some type of resolution.
