Help! There is a community name displayed behind my name!
What is an extension, why is it there, how did it get there and how can I get rid of it?
Every username on yuku has an extension. The two most common ones are .u and .nameofcommunity.
The usernames that have .u behind them are called global profiles while the one with the name of a community behind them are called local profiles.
When you sign up at the yuku home page http://www.yuku.com your profile will be considered global and you will have the .u extension.
The easiest way to ensure that you create a global profile is by going to the home page and the pasting this url in your browser:
http://www.yuku.com/accou.../Create-New-Profile.html href="http://www.yuku.com/account/newprofile/t/Create-New-Profile.html" target=_blank>http://www.yuku.com/accou.../Create-New-Profile.html
When you sign up at any yuku community, you will be considered local to that community and you will have the name of the community behind your username. Local profiles can still be used on other boards, but when they are used on boards other than the "home" board, the extension shows.
How come the extension doesn't always show?
The extension only shows when you visit communities other than the one where you signed up at. The reason why you can sign up at individual communities is to make more usernames available. There can only be one global version of each username, but there can be many local versions of the name. Say you wish to make your username Mike, chances are great that this name has already been taken globally, but you can still sign up as Mike locally, as long as the name hasn't been taken at that particular community.
As long as you post at the community where you signed up, you will not see the extension behind your name, but should you venture out and go to, or post at a different community, you will see your extension. This is to distinguish you from other members who might have the same name. There could be a mike.promote, a mike.stylesampler, etc..
How can I get rid of the extension?
You can't, but you can work your way around it by creating a new name on the same account.
You can have up to 5 profiles on a free account and up to 10 profiles on a paid account.
To create an additional profile, log in to your account and go to the yuku home page http://www.yuku.com
Once there, click on the navigation button at the top right of your screen.
Click on "profile" in the create section over towards the right of the page.
Fill out the form and finish the registration.
To switch between profiles:
Click on the navigation button at the top right of your screen.
Click on "switch profile" just above your avatar.
Click the name you are switching to in the little blue box.
Confirm the switch in the bigger box that will appear.
If my global and my local profile are the same, how will I know which one I'm logged in with?
Log in with your username, using the extension.
If you have a mike2324.gethelp profile and a mike2324.u profile. log in as mike2324.u
Since both your profiles are on the same account, you can use the same password.
If you're not exactly sure which profile you are logged in with, mouse over your username at the top left of your screen.
Look down in your status bar where you will see the URL of your profile.
I am now using my global profile, do I have to switch back and forth to read private messages sent to the local profile?
There is no need to do that.
All profiles on your account share the same inbox. Should people send a private message to your local profile, you will receive it even if you are logged in with the global one.
